Pattern Design + Construction:
I have no shame admitting I'm a pumpkin everything person! In the spirit of fall, my mini crochet pumpkins design is a favorite year after year! These handmade cuties can be festive accessories for your desk, a centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner, a safe photo prop for babies and toddlers, or just simply adorable fall home décor! These pumpkins would also be so cute strung into a garland across the mantle!
This free pattern whips up quickly using the single crochet stitch throughout the base of the pumpkin and the stem is only a handful of stitches. It's easy to whip up a cute pumpkin army while watching your favorite show and sipping coffee! If you're an amigurumi beginner, this pattern is perfect!
Each mini crochet pumpkin consists of the base, which is worked in continuous rounds, and the stem, which is crocheted separately and attached to the top of the pumpkin with a tapestry needle. The pumpkins are stuffed plump with soft fiberfill and the ridged texture is created using a quick trick with a tapestry needle. The finished mini pumpkins measure approximately 3 inches wide by 2 inches tall. One could easily create a larger pumpkin by using a larger crochet hook and a bulkier style yarn.

Yarn:
I'm using medium (4) worsted weight yarn for my Crochet Mini Pumpkins design. I enjoy working with worsted weight yarn since it's versatile and wears well. You could easily substitute for another worsted weight yarn as long as the ounces per gram are similar.
Here are some of the yarn colors I used for this tutorial:

Mini Pumpkin Base:
With the yarn color of your choice,
Round 1: In a magic circle, SC 6, pull tight (6 stitches)
Round 2: INC in each stitch around (12 stitches)
Round 3: INC in the first stitch, SC in the next stitch* (18 stitches)
Round 4: INC in the first stitch, SC in the next two stitches* (24 stitches)
Rounds 5-9: SC in each stitch around (24 stitches)
Round 10: DEC, SC in the next two stitches* (18 stitches)
Round 11: DEC, SC in the next stitch* (12 stitches)
Add your stuffing!
I find that a little more is better than not enough in order to make a nice plump pumpkin.
Round 12: DEC six times (6 stitches)
Chain 1, tie off leaving about a 24 inch tail and pull through your chain.
Shaping:
Using your tapestry needle and the long tail, close the visible hole left in the bottom.
Now, insert your needle through the very bottom center where you ended your work (the hole we just closed), straight up through your stuffing, and out the top where you created your magic circle.
Pull until there is a little tension and wrap around your work and insert your needle back in the bottom hole straight through the top again and pull through. (This will give your pumpkin those cute little curves!)
Repeat this wrapping around, through the bottom, out the top steps until your pumpkin has as many curves as you like. (I did a total of 6 ‘wrap-arounds’ which gave me 6 curves around my pumpkin)
Tie off, pull back through to the bottom, and trim any excess yarn.
Stem:
With the yarn color of your choice, leave about a 6 inch tail at the beginning and end.
Chain 6, HDC in the 3rd chain from your hook, HDC, SC, slip stitch, chain 1
Trim your yarn and pull through the chain.
Using your tapestry needle, insert one tail of your stem through the top of your pumpkin ever so slightly off center and pull through to the bottom where we created the curves. Repeat this with the other tail but this time insert your needle ever so slightly off center on the direct opposite side of your first tail, pull through to the bottom. (This centers your stem) Now tie both tails together at the bottom and trim any excess yarn.
