The Crochet Heart Pocket Pillow is a beginner friendly free crochet pattern designed to hold a gift card or Valentine. This kawaii style amigurumi pattern includes a video tutorial.
Pattern Design + Construction
This Crochet Heart Pocket Pillow is designed to fit a standard sized gift card, money, a Valentine, candy or small toys! It's the perfect thoughtful, handmade Valentine's gift idea! This free crochet plushie is great for beginners since the most challenging portion is Row 1, followed by a series of rows containing only single crochet.
Each Crochet Heart Pocket Pillow consists of a front and back panel and a little pocket for gift cards or treats! The crochet pocket is stitched onto the back panel using a tapestry needle. The front and back panels are joined together with a round of single crochet and let's not forget the stuffing! The finished heart pillow plush measures approximately 7 inches tall by 5.75 inches wide. You could easily crochet a larger pillow by using a larger crochet hook with bulkier yarn.

Yarn:
We'll be using medium Worsted Weight (4) Yarn for this Crochet Heart Pocket Pillow pattern. This is my favorite yarn weight to work with for crochet small plushies and it has a great price point. It's versatile and wears well while also being soft and cozy which is perfect for a stuffed animal or lovey crochet pattern! You could easily substitute brands of worsted weight yarn as long as the ounces per gram are similar.
For this tutorial, I used the following yarn colors:
Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 7 oz / 198 g, in the color Flamingo
Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 7 oz / 198 g, in the color Black

Tie off pulling through the chain stitch to secure.

Pocket:
With the base color yarn of your choice, Chain 13
Row 1: SC in each stitch, chain 1 (12 stitches)
Row 2: INC, SC in the next 10 stitches, INC, chain 1 (14 stitches)
Rows 3-9: SC in each stitch, chain 1 (14 stitches)
Pocket Border:
We've just finished Row 9 and our hook is on the top left side of the pocket.
We will keep working down the left side, across the bottom, and up the right side with a round of SC to create a clean border.
At the end of the border (top right corner of the pocket), chain 1 and tie off with a long tail.
Using a tapestry needle and the long tail stitch the pocket onto the back panel (make sure to leave the top of the pocket open).
Kawaii Face:
Using the yarn color of your choice and a tapestry needle, stitch a cute face onto the front panel.
To create my faces, I like to make 'semicircles'. My semicircle is essentially a wide capital letter V that isn't too tight so it curves. Then I added a few eyelashes to the eyes.
Assembly:
Line up the front and back panels of our Crochet Heart Pocket Pillow (make sure the correct sides are facing outward).
We're going to join the front and back panels with a round of single crochet using the heart base yarn color. I recommend starting at the top right side (with front facing you).
The only exception to single crocheting is a slip stitch in the center of the top in between the curves.
Let's pause to add our stuffing before completing the join.
Once stuffed, continue single crocheting up the right side until you reach the beginning of the border.
Slip stitch, chain 1, tie off with a long enough tail to weave in the end.
Once the ends are weaved in, trim any excess yarn.
